YOUNG leaders in the Yarra Ranges are able to roar thanks to State Government funding.
Evelyn MP Christine Fyffe announced that Yarra Ranges Council will receive $125,000 funding to support a local leadership project called ROAR.
Mrs Fyffe said that the funding would help more young people in the area live healthy, active and fulfilling lives.
The ROAR Leadership Program engages young people in leadership opportunities including increasing their participation in local government decision making processes.
It also gives them the ability to increase their network, skills and confidence for life after school.
The council’s executive officer for youth services Deborah Handley said that the program worked with schools to identify young leaders.
She said a recent program saw students work with a local primary school on the topic of cyber bullying and how the older students had dealt with it in the past.
“It gives those in the program a chance to get involved in their community, but it also gives them the confidence to work as part of a group.”
The announcement is fully funded and is not an election promise.
