IT’S the final piece of the puzzle.
If elected, the Labor Party will build a new community pavilion and playground at Belgrave South Recreation Reserve.
The Reserve is a community sporting facility used by local clubs and organisations, such as the South Belgrave Football Club and South Belgrave Cricket Club.
Labor’s $500,000 plan for the new community pavilion and playground will give local clubs and organisations the facilities they need to grow.
Funding is contingent on a council contribution.
Monbulk incumbent MP James Merlino said he was pleased to make the announcement which meant more than a dozen community groups and clubs in Belgrave South would benefit from the project.
“The Belgrave South Community has worked extraordinarily hard over many years to achieve this goal. I congratulate them,” Mr Merlino said.
“Labor’s commitment is the final piece of the puzzle.”
“Importantly, including a community playground in the project will mean that this much-loved reserve will be of great benefit to families with children of all ages.”
Belgrave South Football Club’s Ian Bakens said he was excited about the announcement, and if Mr Merlino and the Labor Party won, it would be the missing piece of the puzzle.
Aware of the political environment, Mr Bakens agreed that it would also be great if the Liberal Party were to also pledge their support for the revamp of the facilities at Belgrave South.
“We’re very pleased with the funding announced by James,” Mr Bakens said.
“We now have the support from three levels of government, the community bank and the community.”
