Stolen memories

By MELISSA MEEHAN

THE owner of a plant stolen from her Mount Evelyn front yard says she hopes it is well looked after by those who took it.
To Hazel Pool, it’s not just any old plant; it was taken from a cutting from her daughter’s property when she passed away.
“I wanted to take something from her garden to remember her by,” Ms Pool said.
“So I nurtured it in a pot for almost five years, and then when my garden was ready I planted it.
“I used to look at and think how I would prune it and care for it when it grew so more.”
Ms Pool remembers admiring the four-foot high plant on Saturday evening, but on Sunday morning when she took the dogs for a walk she realised it was gone.
“I think it’s a fairly common plant,” she said.
“But whoever took it, wouldn’t have known its significance.”
When the Mail visited Ms Pool’s property on Thursday, she showed where the plant had been before it was removed and said she believed it looked as though the plant had been removed with a shovel.
“Obviously, I’d love for it to be returned,” she said.
“But if that can’t be, I hope they look after it and cherish it like I would.”
