Hills alive with sounds of friendship

By KATHRYN BERMINGHAM

THE sound of the Eagle Rock could be heard around the hills last Friday October 17 as the Mount Evelyn Community House staged its first campfire night.
Held at the Scout Hall in Station Street, the event was the combined effort of the Mount Evelyn CFA, Mount Evelyn Scout Group, Venturers and the Community House, which has been running for around five months. Locals were treated to damper making, marshmallow toasting, a volunteer band and a sing-along.
Mount Evelyn Community House co-ordinator Nicky Condello said that the community campfire night was an initiative to bring people together.
“The Community House is a relatively new organisation and aims to achieve positive social outcomes for the community.
“It was a great partnership between community organisations.”
Around 70 locals attended last Friday and plans are already in the works for a similar event to be held next year.
The Mount Evelyn Community House holds a number of classes and workshops every week as well as meeting rooms and computers available for public use. The campfire night was its first major social event.
“We will definitely continue to hold events like this in the future. It’s important for the community to have opportunities like this.”
