POLICE are searching for information about hoons around the hills, after police were called out to a camping ground in Hoddles Creek over the weekend.
Emerald police Senior Sergeant and Station Commander Greg Addis said that on Saturday 31 January, police were called out to the Ship Rock Falls Campsite in Hoddles Creek.
He said there was a large number of young people at the campsite, doing burnouts and blocking off the road.
“It was quite a large gathering, and police did turn up,” Sen Sgt Addis said.
“If anyone had any information on it or any other hoon activity around the hills, we’d be more than happy to know about it.”
People can submit a confidential crime report through Crime Stoppers on its Hoon Hotline on 1800 333 000 or through www.crimestoppersvic.com.au, and should call triple zero for immediate police assistance.
Report firebugs call
EMERALD police have asked residents to keep an eye out for suspicious activity and potential fire-starters, despite the wet and cold weather.
Emerald police Senior Sergeant and Station Commander Greg Addis told the Mail that police in the Cardinia area had dealt with two suspicious fires near Pakenham over the weekend.
Sen Sgt Addis said that even with the weather cooling down, the area was still in the Fire Danger Period, and that fires still had the potential to cause serious damage.
“We’re in a high risk area, and we need to continue with that message of ‘if you see something, say something’,” he said.
Sen Sgt Addis said police had Firesetter patrols operating daily in marked police cars, aiming to catch those trying to start fires in the area and reduce the risk to the community.
Anyone with information on suspicious fires or activity can contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 to submit a confidential crime report and should call triple zero immediately in the event of an emergency.
