FUND-RAISING is a family affair for Trinity and Mark Higgins.
The Monbulk 11-year-old and her dad will shave their heads this weekend to raise money for people living with cancer.
Her mum, Zara, said Trinity’s decision was out of the blue, but not unexpected.
“She came to me one day and told me she wanted to shave her head for cancer, and I said if you’re sure then let’s organise it,” Zara said.
“And Mark said, ‘Well if you’re willing to do it, then I’ll do it with you.’”
Trinity and Mark are participating in the Leukaemia Foundation’s ‘World’s Greatest Shave’ one of Australia’s biggest fund-raisers.
Between 12 March and 15 March, more than 150,000 people will shave or colour their hair to fund research and support Australians living with blood cancer.
The pair is hoping to raise $560 in donations, and are appealing to the community to dig deep for the worthy cause.
Zara said Trinity was confident in her decision, and was excited about the possibility of helping people with cancer.
“She’s got beautiful hair, but I think it’s great she feels this is one way she can make a difference in other people’s lives,” she said.
“The community has been really supportive, and we’re just hoping to raise as much as we can in the lead-up to the event.”
Trinity and Mark will shave their heads this Saturday 14 March at Edison Bakehouse in Monbulk from noon.
