Bells of peace peal

By KATHRYN BERMINGHAM

Pic to come
EIGHTY local children will ring handbells to remember local Anzac heroes in a community performance and exhibition later this month.
‘Bells of Peace’ tells the stories of men from the Casey and Cardinia electorates who went to war and the families they left behind.
Local schools, historical societies and RSL clubs have come together to tell the stories through music, drama, images and visual art displays.
Choirs of both adults and children will sing traditional songs from World War I and a new instrumental and choral work by Brian Hogg, entitled ‘Sons of Anzac.’
Actors from The Basin Theatre Group will also perform, depicting famous Australians of history including Dame Nellie Melba, as well as local unsung heroes such as Mrs Gunn from Monbulk.
Elizabeth Harvey from Wandin is making a banner to be carried down Main Street by the Lilydale Football Club at the performance, in what will be a re-enactment of the recruitment parade 100 years ago.
Both the exhibition and the performance will be held from noon on Saturday 18 April at the Discovery Church in Mount Evelyn, as well as from 5pm on Monday 20 April at the Belgrave Heights Convention Centre. For bookings visit www.trybookings.com/HCEL
