Mackey makes the grade

By DENNIS FULLER

THE weather god and the golf god joined forces to create a wonderful scene at Emerald Golf Club last week, with stableford as the fare for the day.
When the cards were collected, it emerged there were two players on 38 points.
After further computations were applied, it resulted in a win for Dave Mackey (18) over Travis Gerbes (10), after Gerbes only scored five points on the last five holes after being two-over par at the time.
Few players scored well with Sepp Krummenacher (22) being best of a bad bunch with 35.
Gerbes was nearest the pin on the fourth, Broc Reynolds the seventh, Mike Litchfield the 12th, Phillip Crossley the 13th, while Steve Town walked away from the 18th with the substantial pro pin money safely in his pocket.
Playing in the last group, it was the ever consistent Brianna McCoy who stole the show in the ladies’ competition from a disappointing field.
Several matches in the 4BBB pairs match play were held.
Dean Shannon and Ken Sumsion beat Ken Hill and Leigh Morison, Peter Glasscock and John Carvill beat Mike Litchfield and Ian Scott after a titanic battle, while Broc Reynolds and Peter Clowes accounted for Ross Martin and Steve Town.
Wednesday’s Often Foppish Golf was a stableford event with an extra point added for any one putt green.
Two players took full advantage when both Ken Hill and Peter Clowes both had 78 off the stick when they recorded 55 points.
Litchfield scores 44, Moss Fuller 43, Brian McCoy 42 while Gerran Wright and John Piggott both scored 39.
