Meeting over planned IGA liquor store

By Peter Douglas

OBJECTORS to a proposed new IGA liquor store in Montrose have bandied together and have helped plan a community meeting for this Monday.
Yarra Ranges Shire will chair the planning application meeting, which will be held at 5.30pm at the Montrose Town Centre.
Concerns surround the impact of having a liquor store in one of the most prominent locations in the town’s shopping strip.
IGA has proposed moving its liquor department from its present site in the supermarket to a separate building.
One objector, Trish Rathmell, encouraged residents to attend.
“IGA brand themselves as a community supermarket, yet they’ve failed to consult the community in regards to this decision,” she said.
“They haven’t asked the community if they want this.”
Further details will be available in Tuesday’s Mail newspaper.
