Drugs, weapons found in car

A BORONIA man will front court later in the year after police discovered weapons and drugs in a car in Emerald last week.
Emerald Police Sergeant David Calkin said during a routine intercept on Duffy’s Road, Emerald, at 7.40am on Friday 29 May, a 25-year-old Boronia man was found to be carrying a knife, a gas-powered handgun, cash and ice (crystal methamphetamine).
The man was arrested and has been bailed to appear at Dandenong Magistrates’ Court at a later date.
Hunting arrow kills roo
EMERALD police are searching for information about an animal cruelty incident last week, where a kangaroo was shot with an arrow in the Cardinia Reservoir.
Sergeant David Calkin said that at 12.15pm on Friday 29 May, police found a kangaroo at the reservoir that had been shot and killed with a hunting arrow.
He said the animal was likely shot the night before, and that its tail had been cut off.
“People shooting hunting arrows don’t tend to get a clean kill, and this wasn’t a clean kill,” he said.
Sgt Calkin said the shooter faced a string of charges, including hunting in the reservoir, trespassing and aggravated cruelty to animals.

Thieves steal school computer
POLICE are searching for thieves who broke into Monbulk College early on Friday morning, making off with some of the school’s computer equipment.
Lilydale Police Crime Investigation Unit Detective Sergeant Mark Smithwick said that unknown persons entered the school building by forcing open a window at 3.10am on Friday 29 May.
The thieves took computer equipment, and Det Sgt Smithwick urged anyone who may have information or who saw anything suspicious to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or file a crime report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
The break-in follows another on 14 May, where a window was forced open and a $250 document scanner was stolen.
Thirsty thieves raid hotel
THIRSTY thieves are being hunted by police, after stealing hundreds of dollars of liquor from the Olinda Creek Hotel last week.
Police believe the thieves entered the hotel at 7am on Friday 29 May through an unlocked door and stole liquor, with an estimated value of around $500.

Police pursuit called off twice
HIGHWAY Patrol officers are on the hunt for a silver Holden Commodore, which was involved in a police chase last week.
Yarra Ranges Highway Patrol officers saw the VT-VX Holden Commodore sedan travelling east on the Maroondah Highway between Coldstream and Healesville, at 5.10pm on Thursday 22 May, speeding and overtaking other cars.
Officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but lost sight of the car, before finding it crashed into a guard-rail on the highway.
After trying to intercept the car, again, the police called off their pursuit for safety reasons.
At 5.20pm, police found the car in the driveway of a house on Don Road, Healesville. On seeing the police, it was driven out of the property – the driver then lost control and almost hit the police car.
The car then travelled along Don Road, overtaking several cars and a bus near the Don Road Sporting Complex -police did not attempt to pursue it.
Police said the Commodore has damage down its entire passenger side, and was missing its front bumper.
The driver is believed to be Caucasian and aged between 25 and 30.
