Emergency response skills honed

The joint services effort required personnel to engage their skills.

THE Silvan Water Treatment Plant recently played host to a joint emergency response exercise, designed to test incident procedures at the plant.
Local CFA, police and other emergency services were involved, which gave personnel the chance to practise their training, through responding to a simulated incident.
This simulation required the use of all equipment and vehicles, including lights and sirens.
CFA Operations officer Ian Cross said the exercise was designed to replicate how a real-life incident would be run, including the establishment of a multi-agency incident management team.
“The exercise was a great success and a tribute to all the organisations that took part,” he said.
“All agencies involved worked together to ensure a successful outcome for the exercise.
“All up, there were 80 people involved, and that included around 50 CFA volunteers.
“A big thanks, especially should go to the Salvation Army’s emergency services catering unit, who made sure our crews were well nourished and hydrated.”
Mr Cross said members attended from CFA brigades, including Silvan, Monbulk, Mount Evelyn, Lilydale, Belgrave, Ranges Group, Montrose and Kalorama.
Specialist appliances from Hallam and Bayswater also attended, as did the CFA scientific officer.
