THE Mount Evelyn RSL has successfully applied for a number of Victoria RSL State awards for members of the Mt Evelyn community.
The Mount Evelyn locals have been presented with these awards to honour their commitment to the RSL and to the town.
The Mount Evelyn RSL applied for the awards on behalf of the recipients to show appreciation for all the hard work they had done.
Secretary of the RSL, Anthony McAleer, said the success of the dawn services held at the RSL were due to the input from these individuals.
“The Mt Evelyn RSL has been running a dawn service for six years now,” he said.
“When we began we attracted a crowd of 300 people, this year it grew to 3000 people. A big part of the success of this has been these people.”
The awards were given to:
* Iain Townsley; who has performed as piper at the services, especially the Dawn Services;
* Karin Meyer; who has played the bugle at the dawn services for many years; and
* Rene Belyus who has volunteered his time and equipment to creating a perfect sound system for the services.
Awards were also presented to Gary, Kathie and Natalie Freeman form the Mt Evelyn Post Office, who have supported the club greatly by helping to raise thousands of dollars for the RSL.
