A GARAGE fire at a house in Kilsyth South is the cause for a smoke advice warning being issued for Kilsyth, Mount Dandenong, Olinda and The Basin.
The fire started shortly after 12.30pm today and a large amount of smoke has dispersed into the surrounding area.
The fire was located at the end of Eliana Court in Kilsyth South and CFA are asking residents to allow access for fire trucks and support vehicles.
The structure of the garage has been badly damaged and will need to be assessed by a building surveyor before CFA Fire Investigators can determine the cause of the blaze.
Six fire fighting crews including those from Boronia, The Basin, Bayswater and Montrose had to use breathing apparatuses and had the fire under control in about 20 minutes.
CFA are warning people in the smoke affected areas to avoid unnecessary exposure to the smoke and to close their doors and windows.
Eliana Court is has been closed and people are advised to avoid the area with fire fighters remaining on site for a few more hours.
