THE Patch Primary School has been given 25 reusable cups for their lunch orders as part of the school’s sustainability program.
Melbourne-based company Keep Cup has donated the reusable hot beverage cups for the students to use for hot chocolates that come with their lunch orders.
The Patch Primary School has students across all grades working on various sustainability projects where they learn skills to help them improve their environmental responsibility.
As part of Grade 3/4C’s sustainability project they calculated how many disposable cups the school could avoid putting in landfill by using reusable cups.
“We will be saving over 1000 cups from landfill every winter,” said the children during their presentation.
The students wrote letters to Keep Cup with the idea of using their reusable cups to reduce waste.
Senior Account Manager at Keep Cup, Isaac Livett, attended the school’s assembly to present the cups himself.
“It’s very exciting to give these cups in person,” he said.
Mr Livett said the letter from the students was a hit with the company and they were very keen to help the school with the project.
“We were very impressed by the letters and the initiative shown in taking care of environment,” he said.
“It really touched us at Keep Cup and resonated with us.”
Mr Livett said it was great to see the students taking an interest in ways they could reduce their environmental footprint and was pleased Keep Cup could help them.
“It’s really exciting to see the passion and focus the kids have and their awareness of their role in the global community,” he said.
“The kids represent the next generation of sustainability advocates.”
