Hatchet attack on police

THE MAN who fled the scene of an armed robbery in Ferntree Gully earlier today has been arrested along with two others.

A 40-year-old Dandenong man was arrested near the scene of the robbery just before 5pm.

Two other men were also arrested near Station Street in relation to the incident.

All four men involved in the robbery are currently being held in custody by Knox Crime Investigation Unit.

A POLICE officer has been injured during a robbery on Station Street in Ferntree Gully on Thursday afternoon 15 October.
Police allege two male offenders armed with an iron bar and hatchet tied up a woman while attempting to rob a cigarette store.
Police were called out, about 2.45pm, when an altercation occurred and one of the police officers was struck in the head with a hatchet.
A 24-year-old Bangholme man was arrested at the scene and is currently in custody but the other male offender, believed to be aged in his twenties, fled the scene.
Knox Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating and are keen to speak to any witnesses who may have information.
The injured police officer received non-life threatening trauma and has been taken to Maroondah hospital.
