Principal has lofty goals

By PETER DOUGLAS

NEW Emerald Secondary College principal Julie Doble’s philosophy on education is simple but one she believes in wholeheartedly.
This being that “every student has the right to learn and can achieve”.
Ms Doble said that everything she had set out to achieve in education streams from this statement.
She hopes this will stand her in good stead as she begins her journey as head of the renowned local college.
“I’m a firm believer that the student needs to be put first, which is always in the best interest of the school,” she said.
“Every student has the right to learn, to set themselves goals and to achieve that ambition.”
It’s been a long, fascinating journey to the Emerald Secondary College for the enthusiastic educator, with her work life starting on the stages of West End Theatre in the United Kingdom.
Ms Doble, who also has a background in the performing arts, was trained in teaching in the UK and came out to Australia 13 years ago.
Initially, she temporarily came to the country after gaining a position with the UK Government, which required her to study best practice in Australian education.
She was eventually offered a full-time position in Australia and the rest, as they say, is history.
Ms Doble is married with two teenage children.
In the near future, Ms Doble said she hoped to continue a transparent culture at the school, one which is deeply connected with the community.
“I believe the college is the heart of the community and something people should be proud of,” she said.
“I have an open-door policy, as well as high expectations and clear goals about where I want to head.”
Ms Doble said she had been actively seeking feedback from her students and looked forward to working closely with them in the coming months.
