MOUNT Evelyn Community House is offering a project for members of the community that care for people with a disability to connect with one another and learn about new services.
The Pathway for Carers project gives carers an opportunity to connect with one another and with service providers in an informal and low-pressure setting.
It is an opportunity for carers to share walks in the Yarra Ranges with other carers and to learn more about news, services, and support available.
The project is offered as a free service with no commitment by carers to attend a set number of walks and is designed to give carers a break from their caring role.
Carers can just turn up on the day and enjoy the benefits of connecting with others who face the same pressures and tasks.
Each walk will include a guest walker from service providers including Centrelink, Local Government and other independent carer and disability support service providers.
Nicky Condello, Community House co-ordinator for Mount Evelyn, said the walks offered a great opportunity for carers to take a break from their sometimes demanding role and learn new things as well.
“It’s an open opportunity where we in the community have a chance to care for the carers,” she said.
“It’s so important that people who do such a wonderful job as carers are also looked after and have open access to service providers.”
The Yarra Ranges Pathway for Carers project is supported by Yarra Ranges Shire Council, Uniting Care Life Assist and the Victorian State Government.
The Yarra Ranges Walks begin at Mount Evelyn Community House, 50 Wray Crescent, Mount Evelyn, at 9.30am on the first Thursday of every month.
