Kate heads for the hills

By VICTORIA STONE-MEADOWS

SUPERSTAR of the Australian and international music scene, Kate Miller-Heidke is coming to the Dandenong Ranges in 2016 and the Mail have two double passes to give away.
Playing at Montrose Town Centre and Burrinja Cultural Centre, Kate will be bringing her unique brand of alt-pop to the hills.
It’s been nearly a decade since she played in the Dandenongs and she says she is very excited to be back.
“It’s gorgeous in the Dandenongs and I have fantasised about moving out there,” she said.
“I’ve got a few shows in a row so I’m also taking suggestions about good cafes.”
Having split from her music label, Ms Miller-Heidke said the last few years had really allowed her to explore her music more.
“I think the last few years have been defined by expansion,” she said.
“It’s partly to do with being independent and being in control of my own destiny and saying yes to a project because of a challenge or interest.”
Ms Miller-Heidke said she was looking forward to playing to intimate crowds and showcasing some new material.
“It’s going to be a mix of the songs from my most recent album and some brand-new stuff that’s never been heard before,” she said.
“Part of the reason I want to sing some new songs is to see how they go on the road and then get back into the studio – it’s great way to break new songs in.”
Ms Miller-Heidke said playing smaller venues such as Burrinja and Montrose allowed her to really connect with her audience.
“These are the kinds of gigs where magic can happen,” she said.
“That level of intimacy with an audience feels like a real conversation.”
Kate Miller-Heidke will be appearing at Montrose Town Centre on 9 and 10 March 2016 and at Burrinja on 11 March 2016.
The Mail has a double pass for the Burrinja Performance and each of the Montrose Performances to give away.
