WHILE Sunday, 24 January, wasn’t quite Australia Day, it was close enough for the Monbulk Bowling Club members and guests to dress up in whatever the considered to be there ‘Australian costume’.
The bowls tournament day was organised as a fun social day and fundraiser for the Monbulk Fire Brigade.
Most of all, it was a day to show appreciation for volunteer firefighters in the region.
A sausage sizzle started the proceedings, before a ten-end bowls tournament was held, where the teams were randomly selected to make an unpredictable contest.
A carload of bowlers from Darebin City Bowling Club also joined in to show their support.
Monbulk Fire Brigade members were well represented, with 12 participating.
At the presentation, the winners were awarded stylish bowls towels with the Monbulk logo, while losers had to ensure the extra pain, with medals to remind them of their worst-performed rink.
The captain of the Monbulk Fire Brigade, Simon Schroeder, who also dressed in the ‘Australian’ theme, then accepted a cheque from Monbulk Bowling Club President, Jenny Holmes.
Thanks went to all who contributed to the day’s success.
