HOBO Playhouse theatre company is returning to the Dandenong Ranges with a comedy/drama called ‘Come Back for Light Refreshments after the Service’.
In what will be one show only in Belgrave South – on Saturday, 2 April, at 8pm – the cast includes five well-known local residents who live in Emerald and Gembrook.
The production is written by Julie Day and is a comedy with a few twists.
Set in a kitchen in Melbourne in the 1980s, the play follows four women as they prepare traditional food – you know – curried egg sandwiches, asparagus rolls, cakes, party pies and pots of tea for a wake.
This play is all about relationships and the different expectations of three generations of Australian women as they explore the role of carers in our community.
Artistic director Jeff Jones said local audiences were in for a treat.
“You will be laughing in the aisles one minute, gasping at the severe honesty of the characters the next, and you might even end up wiping a few tears away at the end of the show,” he said.
“The cast includes terrific performances by Sue Bester, Susan Casey, Carol McCoy, Steve Cooper, Catherine Koerner and introducing Pietra Dekker as Vanessa.
“Don’t miss the chance to see it in the local area.”
Come Back for Light Refreshments After the Service has garnered rave reviews and a Fringe Award for Excellence at the Edinburgh Festival.
Tickets are $25 adults, with $15 concession.
Bookings now open.
The show will be presented at the Belgrave South Primary School.
