CFA crews from Upwey, Belgrave and Sassafras were called to a fire at a massage parlour next to Tecoma McDonald’s at about lunchtime on Friday 13 May.
The fire at the business on Burwood Highway was quickly brought under control before it spread to neighbouring premises.
Dave Renkin, CFA District 13 Operations Manager said crews acted quickly to bring the incident under control.
“The business is part of a strip of shops in the main road,” he said.
“The fire-fighters did a really amazing job of confining it to the single property as it certainly had significant potential to spread to neighbouring properties.”
Fire-fighting crews remained at the property for some time as the building was extensively damaged by the blaze.
One person from the business was taken to hospital suffering from burns.
It is unclear if the fire was deliberately started, though a fire investigator has begun examining the scene to determine how the fire started.
