Quality training for upskilling

By PETER DOUGLAS

NEIGHBOURHOOD Houses and Learning Centres across Victoria are great places to connect with people in your local community.
They provide social, recreational, educational and training opportunities for people to benefit from and enjoy.
Many Neighbourhood Houses and Learning Centres are also known as Learn Local centres.
They offer Quality Pre-accredited training funded by the Adult Community and Further Education (ACFE) Board.
Quality Pre-accredited programs are short courses designed to build skills and confidence and to provide pathways to further learning or employment.
Mountain District Learning Centre (MDLC) in Ferntree Gully is one of many Learn Local centres in the Outer East of Melbourne, offering Quality Pre-accredited short courses in addition to accredited training.
The classes are small, friendly and encouraging.
They have experienced trainers who are skilled in teaching adult learners, who may not have been in a learning environment since they were in school.
Although joining a course may be daunting for some, many people find that once they have started with a pre-accredited course their potential is unlocked, their confidence grows and they find themselves coming back to another class and leaning more.
Pre-accredited courses can help give you the skills you need to find employment or help build your skills to improve your opportunities for advancement in your current job.
MDLC is also able to design courses for workplaces and groups that are tailored to meet specific needs.
If you have a need for training, they can help to fill the gap.
In term 3, commencing in July, MDLC will be running a range of engaging pre-accredited short courses including adult literacy through Read Write Now, a range of computer courses, from beginners to intermediate level, including MYOB and Excel, Bookkeeping and a new course that will introduce you to Business Administration and help you to become ’job-ready’.
Mountain District Learning Centre is located at 13-15 The Avenue, Ferntee Gully.
