MOUNT Evelyn Sub Branch and RSL Appeals organisers are gearing up for the annual Poppy Appeal.
It comes as a timely reminder to remember this November.
From late October, thousands of the much-loved, iconic red poppy will be sold to raise funds for current and former servicemen and women in need.
Mount Evelyn Sub Branch is ready for this year’s Poppy Appeal, with a group of volunteers committed to making the appeal a great success.
President of Mount Evelyn Sub Branch, Roger Boness said it is the volunteers’ commitment time and time again, making the Poppy Appeal a great success.
“Our community continues to come together to support the Poppy Appeal in the lead-up to Remembrance Day,” Mr Boness said.
“It is humbling to see the wave of support and enthusiasm by the locals who support the Poppy Appeal in so many ways.”
RSL Victoria Appeals Manager, Peter Smith said not only did buying and wearing a poppy show respect for Australia’s fallen heroes, but it helped raise vital funds to assist past and present servicemen and women and their dependents in times of need.
Poppies were among the first plants to bloom in the devastated battlefields of France and Belgium, and since 1921 they have been used in remembrance of those who fell during times of war.
Poppies can be purchased from Woolworths, Officeworks, and RSL Sub-Branch or from volunteer collectors in your local community from late October.
