Play space blends with environment

By Jodie Symonds

A NEW innovative kindergarten project opened at Monbulk Primary School on Wednesday 16 November.
Developed by Fleming’s Nurseries in Monbulk, the new playground aimed to bring imagination and natural play spaces into the school environment.
The playground incorporated natural plants, trees and edibles and the equipment was made using recycled timber instead of plastic.
Monbulk Primary School Lynn Ordish welcomed Fleming’s director, Wes Fleming, to open the new playground on the day.
Ms Ordish said the students could not wait to get on the playground and enjoy the innovative natural play space.
Mr Fleming said the Monbulk Primary School playground was extra special to him because it had positively impacted the community he grew up in.
Monbulk Primary School was Fleming’s Nurseries 13th play space designed.
The idea to create a new playground meant students implemented their own thoughts and ideas on the play space.
Research undertaken by Deakin University said the playground would give positive benefits including exposing young children to the natural environment instead of unnatural plastic play equipment.
The results showed the playground gave a visual effect of the greening dramatic and higher levels of activity were recorded.
