THE Lilydale Flying School said their recent announcement as winner of the Flying Training Organisation of the Year is recognition of decades of fine work.
Awarded through the Australian Division of the Royal Aeronautical Society, and ‘Australian Flying’, the award recognises the school’s work playing a positive, active role in the careers of pilots who have come through the school.
The school regularly holds navigation challenges and free seminars, making instructors available to students for extensive pre and post-flight briefings.
The award was announced on Sunday, 27 November, at the Lilydale Air Show, with many dignitaries present, including Yarra Ranges councillors Mike Clarke and Tony Stevenson, as well as Evelyn MP Christine Fyffe.
Chief Executive Officer Roger Merridew said the award was a welcome reward.
“The award is a prestigious testament to the hard work and continuous improvement philosophy of past and present management and staff over the past four decades,” he said.
“We have an enviable safety record and are extremely proud of the achievements of our many graduate pilots.”
The airport is family owned and has been for the past four decades.
The school teaches both general aviation and recreational, and, in 2015 alone, issued over 100 certificates and licences.
As well as pilot training, YV offers a wide range of commercial services including charter and adventure flights.
The airport is also home to: SkyDive Australia, Jamco Helicopters, Vintage Airways and Yering District Archers.
Lilydale Flying School conducts an annual event where pilots are presented with their ‘wings’ awards.
This is normally held at the end of November and includes a flying displaying, conducted by many of the flying instructors and past students.
