Acclaimed artist Jan Ward is set to present a talk about her two treks to the Himalayas and the artworks they inspired.
Ward will present ‘Himalayan Odyssey’ at the Sherbrooke Art Society’s annual general meeting on Saturday 4 March from 1.30pm.
Guests are welcome to attend the event.
Ward first visited the remote region of Ladakh, in north-western India near the border with Pakistan, in September 2005.
She trekked on foot for three weeks over the high mountain passes of the Zanskar Ranges to the north of the Himalayan massif on the edge of the Tibetan Plateau.
The sketches and photos from this trek inspired a series of paintings and a solo exhibition in Canberra in 2007.
A second trek to the forbidden kingdom of Mustang in northern Nepal on the border with Tibet in 2009 was just as visually inspiring and another exhibition of her work followed.
Ward will show images of these two remote and fascinating regions and the over 40 paintings that resulted from the treks.
The Sherbrook Art Society presentation will be held at 62 Monbulk Road, Belgrave.
She will explain the compositional devices she used to bring the paintings to fruition.
Diary extracts will bring to life her experiences on the track to share with the audience.
Visitors cost $10, includes tea, coffee and cake.
