A Monbulk Business Network fund-raising committee is on a mission to brighten up Christmas in town for 2017.
Over the past 18 months, Shirlene Bisschop and Joke Fogden have been helping to prepare festive decorations for Monbulk, but they feel that it’s become tired and outdated.
So, they’ve set a goal of raising $30,000 for Christmas garlands, which they hope will go from one end of town to the other.
So far, thanks in part to the generosity of local business, they’ve raised $10,000, according to Shirlene.
“We have been fund-raising through flower stalls, sausage sizzles and, most recently, with a winery tour which was very successful,” she said.
“We have also had fantastic support from local traders through putting little collection tins on their counters, and generous customers putting in their loose change, which all helps to contributing to our goal for this year.”
To raise further funds, the committee is holding a ‘Christmas in July’ fund-raiser on 15 July at The Watering Hole Tavern at 6.30pm.
At just $65 per head, and with live entertainment and a three-course meal, it represents a great night out and a fantastic way to help the town.
Tickets are available at The Watering Hole, Jenny’s Shoppe, The Salon and Blue Gum Cafe.
