Minna makes a difference

By Derek Schlennstedt

Minna Beardsley may only be in Grade 6, but she’s already making a big difference.
The 12-year-old has decided to take part in this year’s Color Run and is raising money for the charity TLC for Kids – which helps sick kids and their families cope with the challenges of everyday life with illness.
To raise money for the charity, Minna has been baking cakes and selling them at her local footy club and is determined to reach her goal and help sick kids and their families.
That goal is to raise $400 or more over the next five months, and Minna made the decision so she could help those sick children feel better.
“This charity helps sick kids and their families when they are at hospital, by making distraction boxes, or helps in any way they need help to feel safe and OK,” she said.
Distraction boxes are designed by TLC for Kids to give nurses and healthcare professionals the perfect tools to guide young children through painful examinations and procedures.
The box is placed in medical rooms and contains items that engage the attention of the child, complement the procedure, comply with hospital infection control protocols, and divert attention away from the procedure.
This year’s Color Run has put a spotlight on individuals striving to make their dreams a reality, and Minna had quickly proven herself as one of the greats said Bronte Bryant, community engagement manager for The Color Run Australia,
“We are incredibly happy to hear of Minna’s efforts to raise much-needed funds for TLC for Kids, and congratulate her on her achievements,” she said.
Individuals like her inspire us to make this event happen.”
