Good wins for ladder leaders

MONBULK BOWLS
Monbulk 2 and Monbulk 3 bowls teams continued on their merry way with victories in Round 6 to maintain the top two positions on the ladder, while the Monbulk 1 side struck trouble at Berwick.
Monbulk 2 played Blackburn at home and won by 18 shots 80 to 62.
Lorraine McLaren’s rink won 31 to 17. Eric Furby’s rink won by 6 shots 32 to 26 with Peter Francis’ rink losing in a tight contest 17 to 19.
Monbulk 3 travelled to Blackburn and in a tightly contested contest were able to get the points 59 to 53.
Ray Pikes rink had a good win by 10 shots 22 to 12. John Prudon won 23 to 17 and Doug Elliot’s rink went down by 10 shots 14 to 24.
Monbulk 1 were up against it all day and went down 55 to 109.
Eric Markham’s rink had a close contest but went down by four shots 16 to 20. Brian Smith went down by 12 shots, Richard Cookson by 13 shots and Andrew Bell by 25 shots.
Monbulk Bowling Club held a major tournament on Cup Day.
The rinks were full with 18 teams from visiting clubs and 10 teams from Monbulk. The final games were intense and each bowl was crucial.
Aimee te Broekhurst, the manager of the Monbulk and District Community Bank branch of the Bendigo Bank, was on hand to present the winning cash prizes generously donated by the Bendigo Bank.
A visiting team from Mulgrave Country Club walked away with the major prize but a Monbulk team of Alan and Norma Clerke did well in collecting one of the prizes.
On Thursday 17 November, Night Owls bowling under lights starts at 7.30pm.
This is for all levels of bowlers and is a very enjoyable activity.
