Monbulk College is preparing for its production which has been described by students as a ‘zombie romance’.

The production is a classic girl-loves-ghoul rock and roll broadway musical set in the atomic 1950’s at Enrico Fermi High, where the zany and tyrannical Principal Delilah Strict rules the roost.

Pretty senior student Toffee has fallen for the class bad boy Jonny “No H” Warner, though family pressure forces her to end their romance resulting in Jonny charging off on his motorcycle towards a nuclear waste dump.

He returns, glowing, dead and determined to reclaim Toffee’s heart.

Sarah Clark, a production assistant and Monbulk College graduate from 2010, spoke to the ‘Mail’ about this year’s production which is called ‘Zombie Prom’.

“It’s a black comedy about a boy and girl who meet and fall in love at high school, but it’s a classic he’s a bad boy, she’s a good girl and there’s pressure from her parents to break-up with him,” she said.“The boy in question then jumps into a nuclear reactor … it gets quite bleak, but it brings the laughs and is quite funny.”

The show will play at the Monbulk College Theatre from 9 – 11 August.
