Funding for Emerald Secondary College STEM centre

An elected Liberal Nationals Government will provide $5.2 million to rebuild and create a state-of-the-art STEM centre at Emerald Secondary College.

The funding comes after months of campaigning by the school to upgrade the facilities in the STEM building.

Earlier this year the ‘Mail’ toured the building with Principal Jodie Doble, who pointed out black mould, leaky ceilings, inadequate piping and gas supplies/electricity supplies, and out-dated equipment.

The funding announcement aims to address these issues.

On 27 July Member for Gembrook, Brad Battin and Liberal Candidate for Monbulk, John Schurink met with Principal Jodie Doble to announce that if elected, a Liberal Nationals Government will invest $5.2 million to repair the current STEM building.

Mr Battin said that ‘only a Liberal Nationals Government will rebuild the school’s maths and science classrooms” and “give students and staff of Emerald Secondary a safe and exciting learning environment.’

“Emerald Secondary has an outstanding reputation for quality education,” he said.

“This new STEM centre will only expand the learning opportunities for students in the Hills, especially with science and maths.”

In December 2017, Emerald Secondary College received a grant of $500,000 from The State Labor Government, which Mr Battin described as a Band-Aid fix.

“Emerald Secondary College deserves more than a Band-Aid it deserves a proper fix,” Mr Battin said.
