Saturday pennant saw Monbulk 1 playing at home against Heathmont needing a win to keep their finals hopes alive, but suffered a crushing defeat.
Tim Stapleton’s rink started well and led by seven shots after nine ends. They then won only two more ends losing by 13 shots, 14 to 27.
Eric Markham’s rink were never in the contest losing the first eleven ends to trail by twenty-two shots. Things did not improve much and they eventually lost by 35 shots, four to 39.
Jim Bras rink had a close contest for the first half of the match and when they picked up six shots on the fourteenth and fifteenth ends they led by two shots. However, they won only one more end to lose by seven shots, 17 to 24.
Brian Smith’s rink was six shots down after seven ends, but then won three ends in a row to lead by two shots. Scores were then tied after 13 ends, but the Heathmont rink won six of the last eight ends to win by nine shots, 14 to 23. Monbulk lost the overall by 64 shots, 49 to 113 which has ended any finals hopes.
Monbulk 2 who were third on the ladder played the top team Narre Warren away from home under the roof. Graeme Goller’s rink started well and after eight ends led by eleven shots. They then lost a number of multiples to find themselves four shots down with three ends to play. They grabbed five shots on the next two ends to take the lead, but dropped a shot on the last end to have a draw, 20 shots each.
Jim Anderson’s rink were nine shots down after seven ends. They then won six of the next eight ends to move within two shots, but won only one more end to lose by 15 shots, 14 to 29.
Eric Furby’s rink was two shots down after seven ends, but won only three more ends to lose by 20 shots, 10 to 30.
Peter Donders’ rink was right in the contest leading by one shot after nine ends. They lost a number of multiples in the last 12 ends to lose by 13 shots, 16 to 29.
Monbulk 2 lost the overall by 48 shots, 60 to 108 but still hold third place on the ladder.
