Theatre Exit is open to all

– Melissa Donchi
EXIT Theatre may be new but many of its members are already well established within the industry and the local community.
Artistic Director of Exit Theatre, Kristof Kaczmarek is an acting veteran having appeared in TV series such as Stingers, Blue Heelers and State Coroner as well as appearing in more than 30 professional theatre productions in Australia and Poland.
Exit Theatre recently formed as an independent theatre group operating under the auspices of the Yarra Valley Arts Council.
President of the Yarra Valley Arts Council Karen Meuleman said the group was very enthusiastic about the opportunities Exit Theatre provided for the local community.
“The aims and ideals of Exit Theatre fit very well into our mission statement which is to support and encourage participation in the arts by all,” Ms Meuleman said.
“We have been impressed by the enthusiasm and passion that Kristof and the other people involved with Exit Theatre have displayed and we are sure that this will be a great thing for the residents of the Yarra Valley and beyond, to both participate in and to enjoy challenging professional theatre locally.”
Mr Kaczmarek said he wanted to see more of a theatre culture in Healesville with more people taking an interest in live performances.
“Some places in Europe have a very vibrant theatre culture and I would like to see that happen in Healesville,” Mr Kaczmarek said.
“We also want to provide theatrical training and techniques to aspiring youths and adults who are interested in taking part.”
Many of Exit Theatre’s actors have performed in local productions but Mr Kaczmarek said they are always looking for new talent.
“We are really looking forward to fleshing out as a group and getting more people involved in our productions,” Mr Kaczmarek said.
“Exit Theatre will provide experiences which will build individual confidence and promote personal development as well as support the transition of youth into adult theatre.”
In April, Exit Theatre will join forces with the Yarra Valley Youth Theatre Group to perform Aboriginal Stories and Poetry by K Walker at the 1812 Theatre in Ferntree Gully on 12, 13 and 14 April.
It will then put on its own performance of The Fly Guardian by R Figura in Healesville from 19 until 22 April.
The Fly Guardian is an award-winning two-act drama that presents the relations within the family – including love, hatred, betrayal and forgiveness.
This allegory to a Biblical story of Cain and Abel and God provokes the audience to justify and understand human behaviours.
The play casts professional actors Steve Gome and Kristof Kaczmarek and amateur actor Travis Jeffery.
The Fly Guardian will be performed at Healesville Memorial Hall.
Tickets are available from Healesville Video Ezy and Healesville Cinema.
Alternatively call Beata on 5962 1717.
