YOUNG animal welfare advocate Poppy from Cockatoo Montessori School recently raised almost $130 for koala conservation.
Poppy, 7, gathered her friends from school to raise awareness about the issues koalas face, such as habitat loss and the difficulties associated with koala relocation.
As part of the initiative, the group ran a campaign where they made and sold lemonade at the school’s recent art exhibition to raise $128.05.
The money was presented to The Koala Foundation.
Principal Karen Bennetts said it was great to see the students so drawn to helping the work of the wider community and congratulated Poppy on her efforts.
“They care so much for other people, for animals and the environment,” she said.
“Community service comes naturally to them. Poppy’s particular interest is in animal welfare and she already demonstrates leadership in this field.”
