Greens want hills clean up

LA TROBE Greens candidate Bree Taylor is campaigning for better outcomes for climate change.
The Dandenong Ranges resident has lived in the hills for most of her life and says she has a deep affinity with the local environment.
Ms Taylor, who was announced as the Greens candidate last week, said she was concern about both the Liberal and Labor parties’ response to climate change.
“These people are in the hands of lobbyists who say that the coal industry can become clean so we don’t need to invest in renewable energy,” she said.
“But whereas clean coal is still experimental and unproven, scientific data shows that renewable can do the job.”
Ms Taylor said the government needed to set meaningful targets to reduce Australia’s greenhouse gas emission.
She is also campaigning for a better share of Federal Government funding for La Trobe’s natural environment.
“La Trobe desperately needs significant funding to combat weeds and improve the health of our national parks,” Ms Taylor said. “For too long this has been ignored.” Ms Taylor also believes that ripping up WorkChoices legislation is the only way to bring fairness back into the industrial relations system.
“Voting for the Greens is the only way to ensure WorkChoices is repealed,” she said.
