Mail burnt
EMERALD police are hoping members of the public can help them identify a man who they believe set a public mailbox alight earlier this month.
Senior Constable Frank Bailey said that police had video footage that shows a man parking near the mailbox before getting out of the car and standing near it between 10.45pm and 11pm. Within minutes after he left the scene, emergency services were made aware that it was on fire.
Sen Const Bailey said the video footage showed another man posting their mail just before the suspect got out of his car, and hoped that man would come forward with any information.
“We’d love to get some more information from anyone who knows about this,” he said.
“But it’s also important that we let people know that anyone who posted their mail on Friday 18 October in that box – it was destroyed.”

Mystery break-in
A HOLIDAY house in Olinda was broken into last week, with police unsure if any items were stolen.
It is believed the house was broken into between 9am and 10.30am between 23 October and 26 October through the back door of the property, before drawers and cupboards were opened.
Olinda Sergeant Paul Phillips said police were intetested in anyone who may have been acting suspiciously around the Mount Dandenong Tourist Road home.
Twice the speed limit
POLICE checked a car travelling at 160km/h in the 80km/h per hour zone on the Warburton Highway in Liydale on Saturday night.
The Yarra Ranges Highway Patrol intercepted the 25-year-old male from Croydon not long before midnight. He will be summonsed to appear at the Ringwood Magistrates’ Court for exceeding the speed limit and dangerous speed.
Acting Sergeant Graeme Rust said the vehicle was impounded for a period of 30 days at a cost of $813.
Unlicensed, speeding
AN unlicensed Rosebud man was caught speeding more than 30 kilometres over the speed limit in Yarra Glen on Saturday night by the Yarra Ranges Highway Patrol.
Act Sgt Rust said police were conducting laser duties in Healesville-Yarra Glen Road, Yarra Glen when they caught the man driving 91km/h in the 60km/h zone.
He was intercepted and it was found he was also unlicensed.
“Having a prior conviction for unlicensed driving, his vehicle was impounded for 30 days at a cost of $1280,” Act Sgt Rust said.
“He will be summonsed to Ringwood Magistrates’ Court at a later date.”
Fries with that?
A WANDIN North P-Plater got more than he bargained for after a late-night visit to Lilydale McDonald’s in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Police observed the driver exiting McDonalds where they say he performed a burn-out and was intercepted a short time later.
The 19-year-old male from Wandin North returned a positive reading on the PBT and accompanied police to Lilydale Police Station for a breath test.
Act Sgt Rust said the driver blew .068 and will lose his licence for a minimum period of six months (for the drink driving) when the matter goes to court.
“His vehicle was impounded for a period of 30 days at a cost of $813. He may lose his licence for a longer period due to the improper use of a motor vehicle,” Act Sgt Rust said.
