Trail of cash

A GROUP of walkers will conquer the Dandenong Ranges on foot later this year to raise funds for people living in poverty.
The annual Oxfam Trailwalker will see entrants cover 100km over three days in April. Walkers taking part in the event will travel through Mount Evelyn, Olinda and Ferntree Gully before finishing at Jells Park.
Event co-ordinator Natalia Dasilva said the event offered participants a challenging course as well as the opportunity to support a worthy cause.
“Not only is it a fantastic fitness goal which people can start training for immediately, it’s an opportunity to be part of a unique team event with a long history in Melbourne where it has been held for the past 12 years.”
Participants sign up for the event in teams of four, with all members of the team crossing the finish line together. Ms Dasilva said participants thrived off the team atmosphere.
“One of the great things about this event is that being a team challenge, you have others to train with and help keep you focused and motivated as you all work towards the same goal.”
The Oxfam Trailwalker contributes to the important work of the charity, which supports people living in poverty around the world.
The annual event has raised more than $55 million for Oxfam Australia’s work since it began in 1999. Since then, more than 60,000 Australians have completed the challenge.
The Oxfam Trailwalker will take place from 10-12 April 2015, and the organisers say team places are limited. For more information or to register a team in Oxfam Trailwalker Melbourne, visit www.trailwalker.org.au or phone 1800 088 110.
