Off-road drive doesn’t go to plan

The driver and passenger of a four-wheel-drive that rolled along Chalet Road, Olinda on Sunday 24 March were lucky to escape injury, police have said.

Constable Karina Frampton from Belgrave police said the accident occurred around 3.30pm in the afternoon, after the driver had elected to take the vehicle along a forest track rather than the road.

Witnesses told police that they had seen a male and female taking photographs next to the car, which was parked on a forest walking track just off Chalet Road.

“It appears that the driver has rolled the car as he tried to drive up the embankment back on to Chalet Road,” said Constable Frampton.

Constable Frampton said the accident served as a reminder to motorists that driving along tracks in National Parks is not only illegal, but dangerous as well.

Police later discovered the occupants had been picked up by a passing motorist and transported home. Neither suffered any injuries.
