Chatline to keep community connection

A toll-free line has been created for people to ring and have a chat while in isolation during Covid-19 restrictions.

The Community Houses Association of the Outer eastern Suburbs (CHAOS Inc) has created the line to support those who may be in need of social support during this time.

Current restrictions require people to stay home and self isolate, meaning many people, especially those unable to use or without access to technology, may be cut off from their normal social support networks.

The chatline is not therapeutic or for crisis, but a friendly person on the other end of the phone.

It is staffed by personnel from Community Houses and other local organisations.

Community members can arrange for someone to call for a regular chat and referrals can be made by other services.

The service operates Monday-Friday 10am-1pm and Monday-Thursday 5pm-9pm.

The contact number is 1800 984 825.

CHAOS Inc is a network of 30 neighbourhood and community houses and centres across Melbourne’s outer eastern suburbs.
