Baby dies, woman under police guard

A three-month-old child has tragically died after being hit by a train in Upwey on Sunday evening.

The infant and a woman were both struck at Kumbada Avenue just after 5pm on Sunday 11 July.

The baby was flown to hospital with life threatening injuries but died several hours later.

The woman was taken to hospital with life threatening injuries and remains under police guard.

A pram could be seen near the tracks while dozens of CFA, ambulance and police members rushed to the scene.

Homicide squad detectives continue to investigate.
