Police began operation roadside on Friday 17 December to target impaired drivers, speeding, mobile phone use and seat belt offenses on the road.

On the first two days of the operation multiple drivers were caught and fined including:

A 42-year-old man was conveyed to hospital after his vehicle left the road and collided with a tree on Glenfern Road in Ferntree Gully.

Blood sample were obtained for analysis and police are investigating if alcohol and speed contributed to the collision.

41-year-old woman was detected speeding at 99 km/h in a 60 km/h zone on Dorset Road.

She was given a $500 penalty notice and a 3-month suspension to her license.

Several other drivers tested positive to illicit drugs with penalties ranging from $545 penalty notice and a 6-month licence suspension for a first offense to a court appearance and minimum 12-month licence suspension for a second offense.

Operation roadside will conclude on Boxing Day.
