The Knox and Yarra Ranges local government areas both saw a drop in criminal incidents during the year up to September, according to new statistics released in December 2022.
The data, released on 15 December, covers the nine-month period from January to September 2022 and was produced by Crime Statistics Agency Victoria.
Knox saw a 13 per cent drop in criminal incidents compared to the first nine months of 2021, while Yarra Ranges saw a 7.6 per cent decrease.
Boronia saw a drop from 1381 criminal incidents to 1144, Ferntree Gully from 1306 to 1101 and Bayswater from 883 to 729 when compared to 2021. 36.6 per cent of criminal incidents saw charges laid, 21.8 per cent ended in no charges and 41.5 per cent remained unsolved.
The most common crime was stealing from a motor vehicle, followed by other theft and breaching family violence orders.
