Ferny Creek CFA to host Community Fire Refuge information sessions

Ferny Creek Fire Brigade will host a Community Fire Refuge Open Day to better prepare locals for the fire season and discuss how to plan ahead to reduce risk on Saturday 11 February.

From 10am to 1pm, attendees will learn what a community fire refuge is, when it may be opened, how it operates and how to develop bushfire survival plans.

A community fire refuge is a purpose-built building designed to be a last resort option for seeking shelter if a bushfire survival plan fails. It is designed to be community operated as there is no guarantee that emergency service personnel will be there during the time of an emergency.

“We encourage the local community to come down during the Open Day to explore the Fire Refuge with guided tours, learn about the local bushfire risk, ask CFA members questions, and prepare a personalised Bushfire Survival Plan,” the CFA said.

“Attendees will be equipped with important information that will help make you fire-ready this fire season.”

The Ferny Creek Community Fire Refuge is located at Ferny Creek Primary School, School Road, Ferny Creek.

Guided Tours will be held from 10am to 10.45am and 12.15pm and 1pm, and the Bushfire Preparedness Session from 11am to 12pm.
