AFTER making the modest total of 176 last week, Emerald Cricket Club’s A Grade looked to pull off an unlikely victory. With Clyde resuming at 0/14 Emerald got off to a great start with Clinton Marsh picking up three quick wickets.
With rain cancelling out a lot of the play the game was shortened to 43 overs and in the 26th over Liam Megarell got immediate success with his second ball to have Clyde 4/58.
A solid partnership bought the score to 113 then Rod Smith and Quenten Lucas started a great spell of bowling as they brought the Bombers right back into the game as the score fell to 8/147. Another partnership saw the score to 8/171 and the win seemed forgotten but a run out and then a wicket in the final over of the game to Rod Smith saw the Bombers pull off a fantastic victory by 4 runs.
Nathan Leversha had a great day behind the stumps with 5 catches while Rod Smith 4/29 off 10 and Clinton Marsh 3/31 off 8 were the stars with the ball.
E Grade: After restricting Cardinia to 114 last week the Bombers resumed on 3/53 and went down in a disappointing loss. Wickets fell consistently in the wet conditions and only an 18 by Mark O’Brien was worth anything. At the end of the day the Bombers only fell 18 runs short of a great win but it wasn’t to be.
Under 16 Red: After almost losing on first innings last week, the Reds looked to save some pride this week and did so in a good fashion. Thanks to good bowling from Corey Sweeney and James Burke the Beacy Tigers declared at 5/92 and then Emerald had 20 overs to bat to avoid the out-right and did so losing only two wickets.
Under 16 Black: After winning on first innings last week the Bombers went looking for the outright and were in good shape after bowling Officer out for 67, a lead of 50.
Dan Leversha did the most damage claiming 4/12 to get match figures of 9/22. In the chase the Bombers did it easy. Ali Semaiha was the best batter with 26 not out.
Under 14 Black: After making 112 last week the Bombers looked to defend the total and managed to do so after bowling Beacy Tigers out for 94. Tye Johnstone took 2/23 off 6 overs while the rest of the wickets were shared around. It was a great win.
