After calling an Uber to try and get away from police, a Ferntree Gully man was arrested in Clayton on Tuesday 9 January.

After crashing into another vehicle at high speed at the intersection of Ferntree Gully and Blackburn roads just before midnight, the 31-year-old was seen taking off on foot along Blackburn Road.

Attending police confirmed the car dumped at the scene was stolen, checked on the condition of the driver and blocked off the area before moving in on the man, who was seen leaving a nearby hotel carpark in a ride-share car.

He then ran from police after the vehicle was intercepted on Wellington Road.

“Officers gave chase and the man was arrested following a short foot pursuit,” police said.

The man will be held over to appear before Moorabbin Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 10 January, expected to face charges including stealing a motor vehicle, two charges of committing an indictable offence while on bail, failing to render assistance as well the possession of methylamphetamine.

The driver and passenger from the other vehicle involved in the crash were both taken to hospital for treatment.
