Teens charged after an aggravated burglary in Ferntree Gully

Eastern Region Crime Squad detectives have charged two teenagers after evading police following an alleged aggravated burglary in Ferntree Gully this morning.

Investigators allege that the teens initially gained entry to a property on Agora Boulevard and stole keys to a 2021 Mercedes, when they were disturbed by an occupant of the house and fled.

It is alleged the teens returned shortly after and threatened the occupant with a knife before stealing the Mercedes about 6.20am.

Police observed the teenagers in the Mercedes in Wanda Street, Mulgrave about 9:30 am.

Officers deployed stop sticks which were successful, however the teenagers fled into what is believed to be a vehicle stolen during an aggravated burglary in Mooroolbark on 25 February.

With the assistance of Air Wing, officers followed the BMW X5 and again, successfully deployed stop sticks.

The teenagers were arrested a short time after in Orsino Street, Springvale.

The driver, a 14-year-old Highett boy, was charged with aggravated burglary, theft, aggravated carjacking with a weapon, theft of motor vehicle, drive in a manner dangerous and commit indictable offence whilst on bail.

The passenger, a 15-year-old Springvale boy, was charged with aggravated burglary, theft, aggravated carjacking with a weapon, theft of motor vehicle and commit indictable offence whilst on bail.

They will both appear at the children’s court at a later date.
