Running from Monday 27 May to Monday 3 June, this year’s National Reconciliation Week is running with the theme of ’Now More than Ever’ to remind all Australians that no matter what, the fight for justice and the rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people will, and must, continue. Here are three ways to lead the reconciliation conversation in your community.
1. Launch a Reconciliation Action Plan
If you work in a workplace with a large team, you may be eligible to develop a Reconcilation Action Plan (RAP), helping organisations engage with staff about their reconciliation needs and plans and helping contribute to the community of Australians who are engaged and supportive of First Nations people and reconciliation.
2. Connect with local communities
Now is the perfect time to investigate your nearby organisations or communities supporting First Nations people. Whether it is supporting Reconciliation Victoria’s efforts or simply connecting with a local land council, no effort is too small.
3. Support a campaign
From Close the Gap to Change the Record, a lot of reconciliation is not just about repairing the scars of the past but campaigning for change and action in the current systems. There are a number of ways to support campaigns, so work out what you are willing to do and start searching.
