Get ready for a splishy, splashy adventure this school holidays at Belgrave Library, where young children can cool down and enjoy a morning of fun-filled water play.
On Tuesday 14 January, from 10am to 11.30am, kids aged one to four are invited to experience a range of engaging water activities designed to entertain and educate.
From bathing dolls and floating ducks to freeing animals trapped in ice, children will explore concepts of floating, sinking, and pouring.
It’s a fantastic opportunity for little ones to get their hands wet while enhancing key developmental skills.
Be sure to bring a towel, as it’s guaranteed to be a fun and wet time!
The event, in partnership with Yarra Ranges Council and Your Library, is part of a broader initiative offering free school holiday activities across the municipality.
Lynda McSolvin, early years service coordinator at Yarra Ranges Council, explained the importance of water play for young children.
“Water play is a simple yet incredibly beneficial activity for children,” she said.
“It supports sensory exploration, develops eye-hand coordination, and introduces children to basic scientific and mathematical concepts. It also promotes motor skills, social interaction, and communication in a fun and engaging way.”
This free event, which is also taking place at Yarra Junction Library, reflects the ongoing collaboration between Yarra Ranges Council and Your Library. According to McSolvin, the Belgrave Library was chosen as one of the locations due to its accessibility and strong community connection.
“Belgrave is an ideal spot for this event,” she said.
“It’s a well-loved community hub, and we’re excited to bring such a fun and educational activity to families in the area.”
For parents, it’s a great chance to spend quality time with their little ones while exploring new experiences.
“We encourage all families to come along, join in the fun, and learn about the many other activities we have planned for the school holidays,” Ms McSolvin said.
This is a free event, and while bookings are required, spaces are still available.
