Power outages in Emerald and surrounds

Residents across the Dandenongs experienced two power outages on Friday 17 January around 5pm.

Friday 17 January saw a number of homes affected by the two power outages across two different areas in the hills.

An Ausnet media spokesperson confirmed that the company had two reported outages on Friday January 17. The first one impacting around 2300 AusNet customers across Emerald, Clematis, Narre Warren North, Harkaway, and Gembrook.

“The first outage, which was found to have been caused by a damaged pole top capacitor unit, occurred at 5.17pm. All customers were restored by 10pm,” they said.

“The second outage at 5.33pm affected Belgrave, Monbulk, Kallista, and The Patch with 2500 customers impacted.”

Further investigation was undertaken at this time and the Ausnet media spokesperson said patrols were undertaken and no cause was found.

“All customers had their power restored within 90 minutes of this outage,” they said.
