Gembrook Gives Back

The Gembrook community group came together last month to raise vital funds for both the local CFA and defibrillator maintenance.

Nathan, the owner of Cockatoo IGA, and Evie, the community services manager, provided all the food, equipment, and support for a BBQ held outside Cockatoo IGA on March 27. Their generous donation ensured that every cent raised went towards helping the community, with $818 raised for the Gembrook Community Group during the event.

A second BBQ held on the Saturday before the CFA Trivia Night raised an additional $380.

The funds raised are essential in maintaining the defibrillators stationed throughout the town.

Garry McGough, leader of the Gembrook Road Action Team, emphasized that, while there are a few defibrillators in Gembrook, accessibility in public spaces remains a concern.

The Gembrook Community Group, which receives no funding from the council, relies on local support to sustain such services.

“We’re raising money to give back to the community, and that’s what makes Gembrook such a strong and supportive place,” Garry said.

“When we work together, we build something special, and these fundraising events are a perfect example of that.”

The funds raised will help ensure Gembrook remains a safer, more connected place for everyone.
